Social Media

Social media amplifies the impact of your content. When your content is distributed across and discussed on networks of personal relationships, it becomes more authentic and nuanced, and is more likely to draw qualified customers to your site. The leverage it provides can be astonishing as your “interesting, unique and valuable content” gets embedded and linked in blogs and websites across the web. Your great content is praised, commented on discussed as you sleep and work and play. You will be amazed where it travels. I use a URL shortener that tracks the time and location of the clicks on my ”Twitter” links as well as a tracking tool on my blog that shows me the time and place of links and clicks.

So what are the critical Social Media Channels you should be using?

Social Media & Small Business

Of the many misconceptions with online marketing is that social media is only for large brands. Truthfully, small business’ that invests resources and time wisely can improve customer/client loyalty and traditional word of mouth marketing efforts through the use of social media.

Social media is useful for almost every type of business. Cafes, retail stores, and even professional services can build their online reputation and increase trust. By taking advantage of social media, businesses can make themselves more accessible, more personable, and maintain long term connections. For a small business looking to increase referrals, social media can be a powerful tool.

Testimonials

Who is the easiest person in the world to sell to? That’s an easy question to answer, yet one most business owners, unfortunately never ask themselves.

You see…the easiest person to sell to is one you’ve sold to before. It’s someone who already trusts you, someone who’s already had a “Wow” experience with your company. And, usually it’s someone who is willing to give you a testimonial…if you ask for it. But, you have to ask for it!

Here are 4 quickfire ways to build your store of testimonials like crazy:

  • Use industry endorsements and/or respected experts
  • Put together user groups
  • Create a feedback form on your website
  • Ask directly, and then help your clients write the testimonial

One of my favorite ways to get testimonials is a trick I learned from my friend, Joe Polish. When a customer tells you something great about your product or service, ask this golden question, “Can I quote you on that?” Then write up their quote, email it to them for their approval, and voila! You’ve got a great testimonial!

Why are testimonials so powerful? Because, what someone else says about you is much more believable than what you say about yourself. If you’re talking about your own business, you’re bound to say how good it is. Everyone expects it, and no one really believes it. But if someone else raves about your business…then it’s a whole different ball game.

URL and SEO

URLs are one of the most important of all on-page SEO elements, and the way in which they are constructed can make or break an optimization campaign. If you’re one of the lucky few site owners with a site designed with SEO in mind, the likelihood is that you’ve already had more than one lengthy meeting with your web designer about the best way to form URL structures.

Unfortunately, not all websites are built with SEO in mind, making the task of URL optimization a tricky one when your thoughts turn to improved organic rankings. If your site has more than a dozen or so pages, renaming each page and changing your entire URL and navigation structure becomes a massive task.

  • The shorter the URL, the more successful it will be
  • A good URL will describe the content of the page
  • URLs can be constructed using upper and lowercase or a mixture of both
  • There are no longer any hard and fast rules that say hyphens are better than underscores, but using a hyphen instead of an underscore (_) is much more human-friendly.
  • When you have decided on a URL structure, put that thinking into practice across the site, not just in one or two categories.
  • Google’s Matt Cutts has gone on record as saying the search engine is happy to crawl any page extensions..

Aigc Northamerica tip :stay away from .net or .asp , google will never say it, but we will ;)

Social Media Thoughts

social media

I was at airport early today, reading an article about social media , and i thought sharing these statements will really be cool:

  • We live in a search-driven world where content is marketing and every door is a front door.
  • Online audiences are increasingly fragmenting and reforming around passionate, vertical communities.
  • Social media is useful and valuable, and will be a key factor in success of every site.

What do you think ?

Google & Bing How to search the web

Unless the features offered by Bing are radically different from that of Google, it will be difficult to change a consumer habit. Sure, there is no cost to switch, but ‘Googling’ has become a common term for “search”.

Google still has most of the market share and in a way, combining the two lesser search engines actually will save SEO types time and effort in the long run, since they are not dealing with rankings on two different engines with different algorithms.  If you use Yahoo Site Explorer or other tools on a regular basis, you might want to consider finding alternatives – with Bing taking over, these may not be available for long.
First, Microsoft is marketing Bing as a “decision engine,” the search functions brings more relevant results and organizes them in a more meaningful way. Bing offers tabs for different kinds of searches similar to Google and including “images,” “videos,” “maps” and “shopping.”  Bing, allegedly organizes search result so you can quickly and easily locate the content that matters most to you.  Bing claims to be the first of its kind decision engine helping you harness information through exclusive tools specifice to your key tasks, leading to more informed decisions.

I for one, Google.  It will take significant “deprogramming” to Bing.
